ThenewsystemsolutionisengineeredtoassistOEMswithacceleratingtime-to-launch,improvingperformance,supportinganincreasingnumberoffrequencybandsandloweringdevelopmenteffortforbuilding5Gmobiledevices.Mobileoperatorscanbenefitfromimprovednetworkcapacityandcoverageduetotheadvancedcapabilitiesofdevices,whileconsumerscanenjoysleeker5Gsmartphoneswithsuperiorbatterylife,callreliability,quality,dataspeeds,andnetworkcoverage. “OEMsfacearangeofformidabledesignchallengeswhenitcomesto5G.Theneedtosupportmultimodeoperationfrom5Gto2G,alongwithanever-increasingnumberofbandcombinations,bringsunprecedentedcomplexity,”saidCristianoAmon,president,QualcommIncorporated.“DiscretemodemorRFsolutionsarenolongersufficient.QualcommTechnologiesisuniqueinthemobileindustrybyofferingacomprehensivemodem-to-antennasolution,andwearepioneeringeffortsinallaspectsof5Gandreadytoenableourcustomerswiththesecapabilitiestohelpthemcommercializethefirstwaveof5Gdevicesthisyear.” ThenewlyannouncedRFFEsolutionsincludetheQualcomm®QTM5255GmmWaveantennamodule,whichbuildsontheinnovationofQualcommTechnologies’firstmmWaveantennamodulebyreducingtheheightofthemoduletosupport5Gsmartphonedesignssleekerthan8millimetersthick.Thenewmoduleaddssupportforbandn258(24.25–27.5GHz)forNorthAmerica,EuropeandAustraliaontopofbandsn257(26.5–29.5GHz),n260(37–40GHz)andn261(27.5–28.35GHz)alreadysupportedbyitspredecessors. QualcommTechnologiesisalsolaunchingtheworld’sfirstannounced5G100MHzenvelopetrackingsolution,QET6100,aswellasafamilyofintegrated5G/4Gpoweramplifier(PA)anddiversitymodules,andtheQAT35555Gadaptiveantennatuningsolution. TheQET6100extendsenvelopetrackingtechnologytothewide100MHzuplinkbandwidthand256-QAMmodulationneededfor5GNR,previouslyconsideredunattainable.Thiscanachieveuptodoublethepowerefficiencycomparedtothealternativeaveragepowertrackingtechnology,enablingfasterdeviceswithlongbatterylife,aswellassignificantimprovementsinnetworkcoverageandcapacity–keyconsiderationsfornetworkoperators. QualcommTechnologies’newadvancedRFFEPAanddiversitymodulesinclude: PAmoduleswhichpairwithQET6100tosupport100MHz5Genvelopetracking.QPM6585,QPM5677andQPM5679forbandsn41,n77/78andn79respectively. Mid/High-band5G/4GPAmoduleQPM5670featuresintegratedLNA,switch,filtersand5Ghexaplexer. Low-band5G/4GPAmoduleQPM5621withintegratedLNA,switchandfilters,andsupportforlow-band/low-bandcarrieraggregationanddualconnectivity. DiversitymodulefamilyQDM58xx,featuringintegrated5G/4GLNA,switchandfiltersforreceivediversityandMIMOsupportforsub-6GHzbands. TohelpOEMsaddressthegrowingnumberofantennasandfrequencyrangesupportrequiredinmobiledevices,QualcommTechnologieshasalsointroducedtheQAT3555SignalBoostadaptiveantennatuner,extendingadaptiveantennatuningtechnologyto5Gbandsupto6GHz,whilefeaturinga25%reducedpackageheight,andlowerlosscomparedtothepreviousgeneration. Theseproductsareexpectedtosampletocustomersinthefirsthalfof2019andbefeaturedincommercialdeviceslaunchinginlate2019.
