TaiwanwastakenoverbytheRepublicofChinain1945.In1946,theRepublicofChinagovernmentincorporatedthepostalserviceinTaiwanwiththeDirectorateGeneralofPosts.In1949,theRepublicofChinalostcontrolofmuchofmainlandChinatotheCommunistPartyofChinawhichfoundedthePeople'sRepublicofChina.Soonafter,postalservicewasrestrictedtoTaiwan,severalsurroundingislands,andafewislandsoffthecoastofmainlandChinastillunderthecontroloftheRepublicofChinagovernment.In2003,theDirectorateGeneralofPostsoftheMinistryofTransportationandCommunications[10]wasrestructuredfromagovernmentdepartmenttoagovernment-ownedcorporation,andrenamedChunghwaPostCo.,Ltd.
