Therulesareflexibleenoughtocoverallpotentialhullshapes,includingbarge,semi-submersible,verticalfloatingcolumns(Spar)andtension-legplatform.Thebasicclassificationscopecoversthefloatingstructure,includingmooringsystems,withanadditionalvoluntaryclassnotationcoveringthepowergenerationsystem,includingthetower.Therulesarealsodesignedtoscale–consideringnotjusttheindividualunitsbuttheentirefieldwithdata-basedservicesandcondition-basedmonitoring(CBM)andthroughlinkingwithfatiguemethodologysensordata. FloatingoffshorewindturbineHywind “Scalingupfloatingoffshorewindwilldependonempoweringinterestedbusinesseswiththeconfidencetotakeonanewchallenge,”saysGeirFuglerud,DirectorofOffshoreClassificationatDNVGL–Maritime.“Andthisisoneofthegreatstrengthsofournewrules.Asthefirsttrulyintegratedrulesetforfloatingoffshorewindwedrawonmanydifferenttypesstandardsfromdifferentsectors.Thismeansthatthenewrulesdon’tshutouttheothersectorsthatneedtoworktogethertorealiseafloatingoffshorewindproject–butexpandtobringthemalltogether.Also,becausetherulesarepartofDNVGLclass,wecanprovidetailoredin-servicefollow-up.Thisalsoenablesoperatorstodemonstratetheyarecontinuingtomeetanexpertindependentqualitystandardthroughusingrisk-basedinspectiontechniquesanddatadrivenservice.” TheDNVGL-RU-OU-0512classificationruleshavebeendevelopedtocomplementDNVGLGroup’sexistingverificationandcertificationservicesandstandardsforthefloatingwindenergymarket.DNVGLhasanunmatchedtrackrecordinenablingoffshorewindprojects,withaninvolvementinvirtuallyalloftheworld’soffshorewindprojects.Inaddition,80%oftheworld’soffshorewindprojectsand50%ofallfloatingwindpilotsuseDNVGLasacertificationbody.
